Plasma Wall Mount
Say you just bought one of those new fancy plasma TV sets. You could just set it on a TV cabinet or table of some sort, but that does not really do it justice, does it? These cutting-edge entertainment appliances are much lighter and slimmer than their predecessors, so why not take advantage of those qualities with a plasma wall mount?
Just to be clear, a plasma TV wall mount is a device that allows you to mount your plasma TV on a wall. It is not for mounting plasma on a wall, nor is it a wall mount made of plasma. Now that that’s clear, let us get down to the brass tacks.
The term “wall mount” refers to mounting the unit to some sort of holding device attached to the wall, and not directly attaching the unit to the wall like a mirror or picture frame. The implementation varies, and there are several types of these devices for plasma TVs. They each have their own advantages and disadvantages, and it will be up to you to make the final decision. Regardless, the rest of this article will present the facts and help you make the best decision.
A lot of users like the swing arm type of plasma wall mount. These have an arm between the wall plate and TV attachment plate, and it can be extended, retracted, and swung around. This provides the maximum level of freedom of adjustment, with great degrees of freedom to suit all sorts of viewing needs. On the downside, the length of the arm is directly related to the likelihood of catastrophic failure, particularly at the joints, often resulting in breakage and loss of the unit. Though this is unlikely if you have chosen the right size and installed it properly, its failure statistics are still the highest in this context.
The other major type of wall mount is the wall bracket type. This one basically attaches to the wall, and allows the attached TV to tilt up and down, and possibly slide or tilt from side to side. The lack of an extensible arm means that there is little space between the TV and wall, reducing freedom of adjustment. On the other hand, they posses much higher stability than arm mounts, since they have fewer moving parts and distribute the weight more evenly. If one of these were to fail, it would be because the screws attached to the wall or TV were improperly installed.
Aside from the direct advantage of being able to adjust the television to exactly the position you want it, a plasma wall mount offers a few more distinct advantages. You of course save some space, which is a prime commodity in many places nowadays. The other advantage is this really maximizes the prestige of plasma TVs. It almost rubs in just how light and slim the TV mounting device is, compared to the much more common CRT TV sets. Whether it is you intention to do so or not, wall mounts for plasma TVs are a great choice.
